![]() Overall I just loved how down-to-earth, happy, and personal their wedding was. There were about a million pizzas from the Big Green Truck, and obviously we hopped on the carousel for photos (straddling a horse while shooting with two cameras is interesting). A Lighthouse Point Park wedding was perfect for their chill, happy personalities. They also were long-distance up until their wedding (officially get to live in the same place now!) which I can sympathize with, and have major respect for. Their Lighthouse Point Park Carousel Wedding was perfect for how fun and laid-back they are. There was a wedding going on and I feared I would not be able to leave for hours.I knew I loved these two right when they first sent me an email asking about my availability for their wedding day. I strongly suggest that they install some so this chaos doesn't keep happening. The lot has no parking lines or guide fences to help organize the cars. While I am grateful for his help, the park mgr commented that this problem happens "all the time". After his stern announcement on the PA system, the driver that had parked illegally came right away to move his car. Unfortunately, when we went out to the parking lot to leave, I found my car trapped between other cars such that I could not leave even though I had parked properly. My daughter was pleased to find a piece of sea glass on the beach. We enjoyed walking the beach and a stone breakwater. Southwest Ledge light is visible on a breakwater a bit offshore. The Five Mile Point lighthouse is impressive at nearly 100 feet tall though it has no light in the lantern room. Not the best way to encourage tourism, folks. However, because we traveled from out of state, they socked us with a $30 entrance fee at the gate. 1 The 82-acre park is located at the eastern point of New Haven Harbor in the East Shore neighborhood, and affords a view of Downtown New Haven. It's quite large with 4-abreast well maintained Charles Carmel wooden horses and a fine band organ. We love fine old wooden carousels and this one is a beauty. IT WAS DELIGHTFUL!! One of the most fun weddings we have ever attended (out of probably 25 total)!! I am hoping being honest about these little hiccoughs does not give you the wrong idea. The food was great, but also had a logistical problem since it was fixed off-site. Women in heels and gowns found it difficult. The restrooms were not in the building, so a bit of a hike. If the weather had been inclement it would have been very muddy. The wedding planners had golf carts ferrying guests, but it was a bit of a problem. The parking is in a grass field not directly adjacent to the site. The only drawbacks are the parking and restrooms. The original lighthouse was a thirty-foot-tall, wooden, octagonal tower, with shingled. Mariners knew to give the light a berth of at least two miles to avoid a dangerous ledge to its southwest. ![]() ![]() The wedding party went down to the water at and after sunset for some astounding shots!! Children had not only the carousel, but the ocean and a playground to keep them busy. Five Mile Point, named for its distance from downtown New Haven, became the sight for a lighthouse in 1805 to mark the entrance to New Haven Harbor. The venue has a wall of windows facing the ocean. The carousel is beautifully lit and has riding characters appropriate for all ages. The carousel at night and exclusive to wedding guests gave dancers and diners a fun place to take a break.
